Meet Art Fuller
The True Story Behind the Voice Up Publishing Dissertation-to-Innovation Workshop Series
Between November 2024 and mid-2026 — less than two years — Art Fuller was building eight goals at the same time. This is not a marketing claim. It is a real, provable record of one person's work.
Most people spend years working toward one big goal. Between November 2024 and mid-2026 — less than two years — Art Fuller was building eight goals at the same time. This is not a marketing claim. It is a real, provable record of one person's work. Knowing how he did it, and what he learned, is the reason this workshop series exists.
Before you learn the eleven skills in this curriculum, it helps to know where they came from. They were not invented in a classroom. They were lived and tested, under real pressure, across eight different projects, all happening at once. Here is that story.
A Question Nobody Had Fully Answered
The doctoral dissertation that named the Naming Gap.
It started with a doctoral dissertation. Art Fuller was working on two advanced degrees — a Doctor of Health Sciences and a Master of Public Health — at a Midwestern university. His research question was simple to ask but hard to answer. Why do so few African American college students think about careers in behavioral health? This is true even when their own lives point straight toward that field.
He interviewed eleven students. They came from ten different universities in ten different states. Almost every one of them had lived through something real. It might be a family member's mental health struggle. It might be a season spent caring for others. It might be a hard personal challenge they overcame. Each experience lined up with real behavioral health work. But not one student had ever been told that their experience counted as a career qualification. Nobody had given them the words for it.
People often already have the skills and experience they need for a meaningful career. What they lack is someone naming it out loud, in a way that connects it to a real job. This one idea would go on to shape almost everything else on this list.
Starting a Company Called Voice Up
Founded November 12, 2024 — connecting people to purpose.
On November 12, 2024, Fuller founded Voice Up Publishing. It is an Indiana-based company built around one mission: connecting people to purpose. The idea grew straight out of his dissertation research. If people already have valuable life experience, Voice Up's job is to help them name it and describe it. Then it helps them turn that experience into something real — a career step, a piece of writing, a program, or a business.
Voice Up grew fast. It grew without paid advertising. Within its first year, it had reached thousands of cities in more than 130 countries. Almost all of that growth came from word of mouth and one-on-one conversations.
A First-of-Its-Kind Database
Behind the scenes, Voice Up built something new. It is a database that tracks, in an organized way, how people move through the process of finding and living out their purpose. Voice Up also built a growing library of more than thirty-five specialized directories. Each one is a separate doorway into the same purpose journey, built for a different starting point. A military family, a college student, a person managing a health condition, or someone from a specific country or faith background can each find an entry point built for their own life. It is not a one-size-fits-all program.
Just as important, Voice Up did not keep this work locked inside the company. Students who joined Voice Up's internship programs were pushed to build their own tools and resources. Many of those tools have gone on to be used well beyond Voice Up itself. A financial literacy guide made by one student is now used by other universities. Children's books written by student authors have become classroom curriculum in multiple school districts. Mental health tools built by a student athlete are now used inside a Division I college athletics program. A civic technology project built by another student increased government transparency in his own city. One student's policy advocacy work helped bring in twenty million dollars in federal research funding. These were not class assignments. They were real tools, used by real organizations, built by students who were simply given the chance to name what they already knew.
The Music Nobody Paid to Promote
Recording as J Ellington — 1M+ streams, 134+ countries.
If two full-time leadership roles and a doctoral dissertation were not enough, Fuller also spent this same time releasing his own music. He records under the name J Ellington. His catalog has now passed one million streams. It reaches listeners in more than 134 countries. He has never spent money on advertising or promotion. His only cost is a basic streaming subscription of about sixteen dollars a month.
"I've never paid for promotion. I simply created music that connects people to something bigger than themselves."
Telling Someone Else's Life Story
Authoring Titan of Life — the autobiography of a community leader.
During this same stretch of time, Fuller wrote and released a full autobiography. The book is called Titan of Life, and it tells the story of a longtime community leader who is the President and CEO of a regional behavioral health organization. He has spent more than forty years at the organization, rising from a receptionist position all the way to the top. Fuller conducted the interviews, wrote the book, coordinated professional photography, and helped deliver the finished project to the leader and his family.
Teaching the World's Most Advanced AI Systems
Paid expert consultant for a leading global AI company.
On top of everything above, Fuller works as a paid expert consultant for a leading global artificial intelligence company. His job is to bring real, lived professional knowledge into the training and testing of some of the most advanced AI systems being built today. In its own way, this is the clearest proof yet of his dissertation's central idea. His lived experience and professional knowledge, once properly named and described, became something a global company was willing to pay for directly.
These next three initiatives were clustered together while Fuller was at work during his day job at a regional behavioral health organization. The five above were occurring outside of it.
Running One of Indiana's First Behavioral Health Pilot Sites
Chief of CCBHC Operations at a regional behavioral health organization.
At the same time he was building Voice Up, Fuller was working full-time as Chief of CCBHC Operations. His employer was a regional behavioral health organization in west-central Indiana. CCBHC stands for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. It is a new federal model built to expand access to mental health and addiction care.
In 2024, the State of Indiana looked at twenty-seven applications from organizations across the state. Only eight were chosen to become official CCBHC demonstration pilot sites. His organization was one of them. Fuller led this effort for a large organization serving thousands of patients each year across multiple counties.
A Seat at the Table for Rural Health Across Seven Counties
Three simultaneous roles in a regional rural health initiative.
Fuller also took on a leadership role in a regional Rural Health Transformation Initiative. This is a statewide effort to strengthen health care access in rural communities. His region covers seven counties across west-central Indiana.
He did not hold just one role in this effort. He held three roles at the same time. He served as a member of the region's work groups. He served as the Lead Facilitator for the grant writing team. And he served as a member of the state's thirteen-member regional committee. The initiative involves significant multi-year investment aimed at changing how rural health care works across the region.
Yes to be Determined
Chief Executive of a brand-new behavioral health university.
Most recently, Fuller was appointed Chief Executive of a brand-new behavioral health university. This is a new school built to be the first of its kind in its field. Most schools train students for one existing job. This one is built around three goals at once. First, it helps current behavioral health workers grow their skills. Second, it builds a pipeline that introduces students to behavioral health careers as early as elementary school. Third, it works to reduce the stigma around mental and behavioral health through a publishing effort that shares real community stories.
Fuller's own dissertation research sits at the center of the new school's approach. The whole institution is built on one idea: people already have what it takes. They just need it named, at the right time, in the right way.

The Exact Playbook Behind a Real Two-Year Run
None of this happened by accident. None of it happened separately, either. Every one of these eight projects grew out of the same core idea from Fuller's dissertation research. People already carry valuable experience inside them. What is usually missing is not talent or effort. What is usually missing is someone naming that experience clearly enough to turn it into a real result.
That result might be a career, a company, a book, a song, a university, or a paid seat at the table with a global AI firm.
This workshop series takes that same discovery and turns it into eleven teachable skills. You are not about to study an abstract theory. You are about to learn the exact playbook behind a real, two-year run of building eight things at once.

Eleven Modules, Seventy-Seven Days
Each module converts an overt or hidden innovation from the founding research into a standalone, teachable 7-day workshop — built around a distinct, transferable doctoral-level skill.
Theory Construction: Naming Your Contribution
Origin in the Research
The Naming Gap was built by synthesizing mental health literacy research, Social Cognitive Career Theory, and narrative career theory — three literatures that had never been combined to explain this specific gap.
Core Skill Taught
How to identify a gap that exists only at the intersection of separate literatures, and name it as an original, citable construct.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: builds the theoretical framework section from a position of synthesis rather than summary.
Dissertation: produces a defensible, original contribution to knowledge statement.
Entrepreneurship: names the core insight behind a venture in a way investors and customers can repeat.
Literature Architecture: Building the Inevitable Case
Origin in the Research
The literature review sequences workforce-definition confusion, disproportionate impact, cultural mistrust, and childhood career-identity formation so the Naming Gap feels like the only possible conclusion by the time it is introduced.
Core Skill Taught
How to structure a body of evidence so a reader or reviewer arrives at your conclusion before you state it.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: produces a literature review that argues rather than lists.
Dissertation: strengthens committee persuasion and defense readiness.
Entrepreneurship: builds a market/problem narrative for investor decks using the same inevitability logic.
Design Innovation: Engineering Convergence
Origin in the Research
Four independently coded themes in the Results section all terminate in the same finding, and a definitional exercise embedded inside the interview protocol produced measurable pre/post data.
Core Skill Taught
How to design data collection so multiple independent lines of evidence converge on one finding, and how to embed a natural experiment inside a purely qualitative instrument.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: produces a stronger, triangulated findings section from qualitative data alone.
Dissertation: satisfies committee concerns about single-method rigor without adding a second study.
Entrepreneurship: builds product/market validation interviews that capture before/after shifts in customer understanding.
Analytic Rigor I: Turning Limitations Into Evidence
Origin in the Research
The absence of baseline knowledge among all 11 participants was treated as direct evidence rather than a limitation, and the study carefully distinguished participants "recognizing" competencies from "discovering" new ones.
Core Skill Taught
How to convert an apparent weakness into your strongest evidence, and how to rule out simpler alternative explanations for your findings.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: elevates a descriptive findings section into an analytically defensible one.
Dissertation: prepares candidates for the toughest committee question — "couldn't this be explained more simply?"
Entrepreneurship: builds credible traction narratives that withstand investor due diligence.
Advanced Coding: The Dual-Lens Method
Origin in the Research
A second, independent "Construct" analysis was layered on top of the original thematic analysis, re-deriving similar patterns through a different organizing logic and functioning as informal triangulation without a second coder.
Core Skill Taught
How to re-interrogate your own qualitative data through a second, independent analytic lens to build validity without external resources.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: adds methodological sophistication without requiring a second researcher.
Dissertation: provides a defensible answer to inter-rater reliability concerns in solo-authored qualitative work.
Entrepreneurship: re-examines customer interview data through a second lens (e.g., objections vs. motivations) to validate a business model.
Evidentiary Standards: Saturation & Defensibility
Origin in the Research
Saturation was operationalized into three distinct, separately defended sub-types (behavioral, interpretive, linguistic), plus a temporal confirmation check on the final interviews.
Core Skill Taught
How to convert a normally qualitative, asserted concept (saturation, sufficiency, validation) into a quantified, defensible standard.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: strengthens methods sections against common reviewer pushback.
Dissertation: provides publication-ready methodological rigor language.
Entrepreneurship: builds a defensible standard for "enough customer validation" before a funding pitch.
Stakeholder Infrastructure: The Audit Trail
Origin in the Research
The codebook development history preserved dated, phased documentation of how a methodologist's feedback was incorporated, and tracked changes provided a visible chain of custody from transcript to final quote.
Core Skill Taught
How to turn oversight (a committee, an IRB, an investor, a board) into a documented, transparent asset rather than a hurdle to survive.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: builds trust with faculty advisors through visible responsiveness.
Dissertation: satisfies increasing IRB and committee scrutiny of AI-assisted or externally reviewed qualitative work.
Entrepreneurship: creates investor-grade documentation trails for claims made in pitch materials.
Adaptive Design: Turning Deviation Into Strength
Origin in the Research
Recruitment drifted from two planned cities to ten universities across ten states through snowball sampling, and this deviation was reframed as evidence strengthening transferability rather than a departure from protocol.
Core Skill Taught
How to convert an unplanned deviation from your original design into a credibility asset rather than a limitation requiring apology.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: turns recruitment or scope-creep problems into legitimate findings.
Dissertation: prepares candidates to defend real-world messiness without appearing to have failed the design.
Entrepreneurship: reframes a pivot as strategic foresight in a founder narrative.
From Findings to Model: Productizing Your Research
Origin in the Research
The Definitional Clarity Cascade converted qualitative findings into a standalone, four-stage, quantified model, and student-generated recommendations from participant quotes functioned as ready-made policy guidance.
Core Skill Taught
How to convert a set of findings into an exportable, staged model or tool that can function independently of the full research report.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: produces a practical, presentable deliverable beyond the written report.
Dissertation: creates a training or advocacy tool with independent value (as Appendix H became for Voice Up Publishing).
Entrepreneurship: this module is the direct bridge from research to minimum viable product or training curriculum.
Scaling the Argument: Cross-Disciplinary Extension
Origin in the Research
A single construct about earliest childhood memories extended the study's implications from a college-population workforce study into a generational, developmental argument for elementary-level intervention.
Core Skill Taught
How to identify one finding within your study capable of extending its implications to an entirely different population, age group, or field.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: strengthens the significance and future-research sections.
Dissertation: builds grant and post-doctoral research agenda language.
Entrepreneurship: identifies market expansion opportunities directly from existing customer/user data.
Capstone: From Dissertation to Institution
Origin in the Research
Read together, the Naming Gap, the Definitional Clarity Cascade, the codebook infrastructure, and the generational extension became the founding research infrastructure for an entire institution (a brand-new behavioral health university) rather than a static academic artifact.
Core Skill Taught
How to architect a research project, from its earliest design decisions, so that its components can be extracted and repurposed into curriculum, training tools, publishing products, and organizational infrastructure.
Cross-Application
Capstone/Thesis: gives students a concrete answer to "what happens to this project after I graduate?"
Dissertation: turns the completed dissertation into an ongoing research and career platform rather than a filed document.
Entrepreneurship: this module is the entire venture-formation exercise — turning validated research into a company, curriculum, or nonprofit.
A Complete 77-Day Arc
Delivered in full, the eleven modules form a 77-day sequence that mirrors the complete arc of the founding research: theory formation, literature architecture, design innovation, analytic rigor, advanced coding, evidentiary defensibility, stakeholder management, adaptive resilience, model-building, scaling, and institutional conversion.
No module depends on behavioral health content specifically — every activity is transferable to any capstone, thesis, dissertation, or venture-building context, while the behavioral health workforce material can remain the illustrative case study throughout.
This structure allows the series to be delivered as a single 11-week program, as standalone modules within an existing curriculum, or as the backbone of Voice Up Publishing's planned doctoral-level dissertation development offering.
Brand Note
This curriculum is a Voice Up Publishing original innovation, developed from research conducted by its Founder. While the underlying research also informs the founding rationale of a brand-new behavioral health university, the workshop series itself — its structure, modules, and delivery model — is a Voice Up Publishing product.
